Letter from A. Pflueger, Troy, N.Y., to William Lloyd Garrison, March 12th, 1874
Description:
A. Pflueger addresses William Lloyd Garrison inquiring if it is true that "Lillburn Lewis cut one of his slaves to pieces alive and deliberately threw them into the fire" with the design of instilling fear and obedience into his remaining slaves. Pflueger inquires, if this is true, if Lewis was punished, and if so, what the punishment was. Pflueger recounts to Garrison his awakening to the horrors of slavery, and his exiting of the Democratic Party.
