Copy of letter from Amos Augustus Phelps, Boston, to William Allen Hallock, March 18, 1844
Description:
Amos A. Phelps writes to William Allen Hallock about Phelps’s book on Sabbath. Phelps says he could not find in the book any “unnecessary offense at the South” about which Hallock expressed his concern. After saying that Hallock can make any changes he wants to the book once he purchases the “plates” from Mr. King, the copyright holder of the book, Phelps goes on to say that he cannot make any change to humor the slave holders. He then criticizes the American Tract Society for not taking a stronger stance against slavery.
