Letter from Samuel Joseph May, Syracuse, [N.Y.], to William Lloyd Garrison, Feb[ruary] 27. 1866
Description:
Samuel Joseph May informs William Lloyd Garrison that he has learned of Garrison's lecture scheduled for March 6th in Auburn, and states his hopes that Garrison will not end his voyage without a visit to the May household. May asserts his wish that Garrison might lecture at the Young Men's Christian Association, or for the benefit of the Syracuse auxiliary of the Freedman's Relief Association, and assures Garrison that his expenses will be fully paid, including a $50 payment for his lecture. In a post-script, May adds that he has "not gotten over [his] disappointment" at not being able to officiate the wedding of Garrison's daughter Fanny. May requests that Garrison alert him prior to any planned voyages to Europe so that he can make any necessary arrangements concerning Garrison's insurance coverage.
