Letter from Samuel William Southmayd Dutton, New Haven, to Amos Augustus Phelps, March 27th 1846
Description:
Samuel W. S. Dutton writes to Amos A. Phelps that Dr. Bacon will not identify “his model slaver holder” to the public, but that he (Dutton) has a good reason to believe the person is Mr. Clay of Bryan County, Georgia. He also says that Dr. Bacon nowhere says owning a slave itself is a sin.
