Letter from John Phelps Cowles, Oberlin, to Amos Augustus Phelps, Jule 29, 1839
Description:
John P. Cowles Cowles writes to Amos A. Phelps that he feels solicitude to the “state of [Phelps's] church with regard to the matter of Christian perfection.” Cowles finds himself in disagreement with the views of Charles Finney and Ana Mahan on the subject of Christian perfection. He requests for information concerning “how things stands in Boston with reference to these views.” He also expresses his approval of Phelps's new paper.
