Letter from Joseph Warren Cross, Boxboro, to Amos Augustus Phelps, Mar. 2d 1839
Description:
Joseph Warren Cross writes to Amos A. Phelps to describe the defeat of a motion that he (Cross) made at a meeting of the “Rel[igious] Char[ity] Soc[iety] Of Mid North & Vicinity” on behalf of the antislavery cause. He says he made the motion to make it easier to raise funds for the antislavery cause. On a postscript note, Cross mentions “an important notice” that he saw while looking over old papers, which was about an antislavery meeting in Baltimore on the 25th of October 1826.
