Black and white full-length studio portrait of Betsey Stetson. Subject is a young Caucasian female standing to the left of an ornately carved chair with padded back and seat. Subject has dark hair parted in the middle, and gathered in a snood in the back. Subject wears a dark-colored skirt and jacket with darker flecks overall, a white bodice and cuffs and collar with dark ribbon running through it and tied in a bow at throat. Jacket has dropped shoulders with sleeves that grow fuller at the wrists and pleated trim at cuffs and along the front open edge of jacket. There is a belt with buckle between the dark skirt and white bodice.
