Samuel Joseph May is happy to be one of a number who will give a course of anti-slavery lectures at Amory Hall, but he will not be able to meet them at Maria Weston Chapman's house at the time proposed. While Samuel J. May finds that his present duties all that he can "possibly discharge decently well---and more than I can to my own satisfaction. But I am jealous of my place among the old school abolitionists-- ..."
In the postscript, Samuel J. May reminds Maria Weston Chapman that he wants the proceeds from the sale of his seal to be divided between William Lloyd Garrison and Mrs. Lydia Maria Child. If the seal does not sell, Samuel J. May wants the seal back, and will give ten dollars instead.
