John Bishop Estlin discusses Lord Shaftesbury's memorial address. Estlin commented: "The Duchess of Sutherland's Address amuses me..." Estlin finds it "very satisfactory to see people not very sensibly on Am. Slavery. Another Memorial & subscription for Mrs. Stowe is on foot, of course we oppose none of these harmless amusements." He discusses Mrs. Richardson's money raising activities. He tells about letters and articles appearing in the Anti-Slavery Advocate. He hopes to say a word for William Lloyd Garrison in the next issue "although not professing any following of his leadership." The Quakers are bitter against Garrison. He has been looking for the anti-slavery articles of Harriet Martineau. Estlin wrote: "The Times has some bitter articles or 'Letters' against Female interference with Am. politics." He has heard that George Thompson has been delivering some anti-slavery lectures. People want to know how he makes a living. He is sorry to hear that Betsy O'Reilly is not as well as expected.
