Having just received a letter from his wife, Augustus Hesse infers: "Almiras capability in writing me a letter in such a short time of her study---shows that you my kind friend have taken great pains in teaching her." Augustus Hesse understands that his pig is going to be killed this month and hopes Almira will make sausages, of which he would like to have some sent. Hesse suffers from not getting tea here, as coffee twice a day does not agree with him. The men in his tent are very nice "camerads" [sic]---one is a German, another a sailor who went as a steersman in a whaler from New Bedford and knows Mr. Ricketson. These "camerader[s]" [sic] shared with Hesse provisions sent to them, "but now is my turn." Hesse thinks of Mrs. Weston every day. He describes the move from Arlington Heigts to Camp Barry.
