Joseph Lupton sent a box of contributions to the anti-slavery fair by one of the Warren & Thayer packet ships. He refers to the "monetary crisis through which you are now passing," i.e. the business depression of 1857. He says that one of his friends is in Lucknow, now under siege by the Indian rebels. Joseph Lupton has moved to a new address.
On pages 2-3 of this manuscript, there is a separate letter from Elizabeth Lupton to Maria Weston Chapman, October 1, 1857; above the salutation, it is marked "Copy."
