Description:
Lucy Dana is the daughter of Abijah White. Geroge Richardson graduated at Harvard College, 1829. One of his class- mates was George Tyler Bigelow, a judge of the supreme court of Massachusetts; another was Benjamin Robbins Curtis, of the supreme court of the United States both resided in Watertown. He studied law with his brother John and with Judge Pliny Merrick, of Worcester ; was admitted to the bar in Worcester, 1835, and entered on the practice of law in that town the same year. He settled in Worcester after his marriage, and has lived there and in the same house ever since, thirty-nine years. He was commissioned by Governor John Davis, in 1841, as aid to him in his capacity of commander-in-chief of Massachusetts; was appointed, in 1853, by Governor Clifford, sheriff of the county of Worcester, which office he held three years ; was chosen president of the City Hall Bank of Worcester at its organization, in May, 1854. He was elected mayor of Worcester in 1855 and 1857; vice-president of the Worcester Five Cents Savings Bank in 1861; a director of the Bay State Fire Insurance Company in 1861.
