Albert Saléza (1867-1916) was a Belgian-French tenor. After he became an orphan at the age of 8, he left Belgium to become a shepherd in the French countryside. A few years later, he came back to Belgium to work as a shoemaker, and it was here that he would sing to others in the workshop. His voice was discovered by a customer who helped Saléza receive an education in music, reading, and writing, and he made his debut in Paris a few years later. He performed at the Opéra-Comique in Paris as well as the Metropolitan Opera House.
