Samuel May, Jr. Some of the letters were from a governess in a southern family who wrote about the flogging of a slave. She tells about a meeting in South Weymouth where Thomas Jefferson's administration was attacked for its pro-slavery attitude. She describes a church service and a railroad accident. Mrs. Lydia M. Child's new novel is coming out soon. She heard a rumor that an abolitionist novel is being suppressed. She tells of a quarrel between the Chapmans and the Higginsons over a church pew.
