Gives family news. Wendell Phillips stayed at Anne Weston's house when he came to Weymouth to lecture. Because of a violent storm, he had a comparatively small audience, but was much liked. Anne reports on the resolutions passed at a meeting of the Female Emancipation Society (of Weymouth) and of the local efforts to collect money for the redemption of the pledge (of the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society). "The pledge is paid, but it was raised at the last minute..." Henry Grafton Chapman "seemed to bear his wife's debut at Lynn very well." Mrs. Fifield reported that Maria Weston Chapman had read her letter written by Fanny Kemble to Mary Appleton, which was genuine anti-slavery. Fanny, it seems, is living on a plantation at the South somewhere." [Fanny Kemble wrote: Journal or a Residence on a Georgian Plantation in 1838-39; published New York, Harper & Brothers, 1863.] Anne tells about the Norfolk county (anti-slavery) meeting in Dorchester. Gives news about acquaintances.
